In April 1993, adults of both sexes of two Austroaeschna species were found in the Eungella area.

These were compared with some specimens from the early 1980's and were found to be two new species of Darner Dragonfly.

One was named S-Spot Darner Austroaeschna christine after the wife of G. Theischinger, 1984.

The S-Spot Darner had been previously mis-identified as the Sigma Darner.
